Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney K. Harrison joined Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney and our law enforcement partners to announce an arrest in the Gilgo Beach homicide investigation.
Rex Heuermann was arrested and charged with three counts of first degree murder and three counts of second degree murder in the deaths of Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, and Amber Costello.
The arrest comes 18 months after the department announced the creation of the Gilgo Beach Homicide Investigation Task Force which includes members of the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, FBI, New York State Police and the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office as well as SCPD homicide detectives. They worked tireless on the case; however more work is being done to bring justice to all the victims.
Our thoughts are with the victim’s families and we hope this arrest brings some sense of closure. The department would also like to thank those who have worked tirelessly to hold Heuermann accountable for his actions.
