As many counties are hard hit by drought, Lake Kenyatta in Mpeketoni is now on the verge of extinction following human activities along the Lake.
The lake has been shrinking from unprecedented levels of environmental degradation that have significantly threatened the existence of Lamu county's biggest Lake.
The situation has caused jitters among residents, tourism stakeholders, and other environmental players that have come together to seek a long-term solution to saving lives.
The resident of Mpeketoni has now pledged by signing eight years action plan that will save the lake from Extinction.
The eight years action plan was signed in a public Baraza at the seashores of the Lake attended by farmers, pastoralists, and fishermen. The plan will be implemented by the Lamu county government in partnership with other key environmental stakeholders.
Speaking during a tour Lamu Governor Issah Timammy cited that, human activities such as farming across river course, overgrazing, illegal settlement, and pollution on the riparian land among key contributors threatening the silted lake.
Residents are now urged to cooperate in a move to restore the lost glory of the lake.
