Easton Harriers chase a hare on Boxing Day 2016 // Easton Harriers, 26.12.16
FROM THE ARCHIVE: Previously unseen footage of the Easton Harriers openly chasing hares on Boxing Day 2016.
Then-huntsman Alun Thomas was on his last season and clearly wanted a big final Boxing Day to remember. Less than an hour after leaving the meet, he let the pack chase a hare across fields near High Road in Saxtead Green, Suffolk. We caught the chase on camera. Whipper-in James Pratt can be seen in the video making no attempt to call the hounds off.
This footage was submitted to Suffolk Police but ultimately went no further. The force said they dropped it due to the person that filmed the footage changing their statement between interviews. However, we believe it's as much to do with the high bar of evidence in the Hunting Act. It means even blatant hunting, as seen in this footage, would be difficult to prosecute.
