Can I Get an Art Job through LinkedIn? And is it a Good Place for Artists to Find Work?
In Art Talk #43 I update on my endeavour to become a full time-artist. In this video, I share my experience with using LinkedIn to find art-related job opportunities, reflecting on my two-decade-long career as a part-time artist. Despite creating a comprehensive LinkedIn profile with endorsements and a diverse portfolio, I’ve struggled to gain meaningful opportunities from the platform.
LinkedIn, originally a business networking tool, offers some job listings for artists, but they’re often oversubscribed, with thousands of applicants vying for a limited number of positions. Additionally, many of the jobs listed offer low pay, especially for entry-level positions, which makes it hard to justify pursuing them when the stress and competition feel overwhelming.
I also touch on my concerns with the growing role of AI in the art industry, and how this has led to a shrinking pool of opportunities for artists like me. As AI platforms like MidJourney become more widespread, some art-related jobs now require knowledge of these tools alongside traditional artistic skills.
I share how I recently applied for a job that seemed promising, offering good pay but faced the challenge of over a thousand applicants—resulting in yet another rejection.
Through this video, I explore the frustrations and realities of searching for work in today’s competitive art industry.
I discuss how cold outreach to companies, rather than relying on job postings, might be a more effective strategy, despite the inevitable rejection and frustration.
