Brightline is building a $12 billion high-speed rail line between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Since the 1960s, the United States has been trying to develop high-speed rail lines. For decades, nothing came of it. Then, in 2008, the California High-Speed Rail launched, promising a revolutionary train service between Los Angeles and San Francisco. But more than 15 years later, the project is plagued by land acquisition problems, cost overruns, and a lack of funding. For a while, it seemed as though high-speed rail wouldn't work in the US. Then, a company called Brightline in Florida successfully built the country's first privately operated intercity rail line. Now the company is expanding and has begun construction of Brightline West, the first high-speed rail line in the US between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. With a top speed of 190 miles per hour, it will reduce travel time between the two cities from four hours to just two hours and ten minutes. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2024, with the line opening in 2028!
