Disc extrusion vs protrusion… what’s the difference?
Two similar words. Two different meanings.
When the ligament ring surrounding a disc weakens, it can make the disc bulge, creating an extrusion. When that ligament ring tears and the center pops out into the spinal canal and pinches a nerve, that’s a protrusion.
