CILT Hybrid Event: The positive effects of blended learning, and how to measure them
In response to the changing educational landscape brought about by the pandemic, Prof Jimmy Winfield and Dr Emma Whitelaw will showcase how they’ve combined innovative teaching methods and data-driven insights to enhance student experiences and academic success.
Prof Jimmy Winfield, a UCT Distinguished Teacher and recipient of the HELTASA National Excellence in Teaching Award, will introduce a fully blended learning model implemented in the Financial Reporting 1 course. He will also delve into the intricacies of the flipped classroom approach, utilising the power of video lessons filmed using a lightboard and enabling dynamic visual explanations that encourage learners' attention. Prof Winfield will highlight the most effective features of the blended learning model and offer practical recommendations for their successful implementation in your own educational endeavours.
Dr Emma Whitelaw, a recent PhD graduate from the Southern Africa Labour and Development Research Unit, will share her expertise in using institutional data to assess student success. Discover the excitingly positive results of comparing student perceptions and academic performance under the blended learning model with the pre-pandemic in-person model.
