Eating Up The Rainforests | Meat & deforestation
Between August 2020 and July 2021, the Amazon lost a forest area nearly 17 times that of New York City. A recent study published on the journal nature confirmed that the Amazon rainforest now emits more CO2 than it absorbs, and the latest report by the Brazilian Space Agency revealed that deforestation had hit a 15-year high. Deforestation (both in the Amazon and worldwide) is mainly fueled by fires deliberately set to clear land for beef and soy production. Urgent changes to the global food system needs to take place to prevent the climate tipping point and stop the irreversible climate change. Stop funding deforestation. Adopt a plant-based diet today.

To combat the most serious climate crisis and human rights issue, it is extremely important to understand how animal agriculture/livestock production & our diets (meat & dairy consumption) fuel the global deforestation and climate change, the impact of deforestation on the indigenous people, and what food systems will sustainably feed the growing human population in 2050.
