Redfall is ultimately a game that radiates quite a lot of fun. Finding loot and taking on the vampires is very entertaining, but it can be a tough job on your own and you are of course limited in your skills.
Each character only has two, plus another ultimate. The game therefore seems to have more of the co-op functionality, in which the four of you can use the strengths and weaknesses of each character and creatively eliminate the vampires.
Vampires are not the only threat.
Most of the islanders have joined cults, worshiping one of the great vampires in the hope that they won't be drained themselves.
And then the private military company Bellwether also shoots anything that moves.
Only at safe houses and a hub you will encounter friendly faces and you can buy weapons, health kits and other useful items.
Speaking of weapons, there is a lot of diversity.
You can expect common weapons such as pistols, shotguns and sniper rifles, but they all have their own rarity, perks and properties. Redfall also has a number of unique 'shooting irons', such as a stake launcher and UV beam.
Those last two are mainly for use against vampires, who appear as stronger opponents than the human foot soldiers.
When you have reduced their hit points to zero, you must finish it off with a wooden stake for the heart.
Vampires also have special powers. Think of teleportation, being able to drain life points and using a human as a shield, a bit funny though.
It is therefore wise to equip your loadout with weapons that are useful in different situations.
Fortunately, due to the great diversity of weapons, this is quite possible and it ensures that it remains fun to find loot in the game because it is not repeated so quickly.
In the beginning you will notice that as a player you are controlled fairly tightly.
You have not yet discovered much in the world, the side missions are not there yet and you have not yet found the safehouses with associated missions. This allows time and space to get to know the different skills and to absorb the lore that the world has to offer.
