On November 1st, Israel held its fifth election in three and a half years, a referendum on indicted opposition leader Binyamin Netanyahu’s bid to return to power by allying with the extreme Right of the political spectrum. Interim Prime Minister Yair Lapid seeks to rebuild the eclectic coalition, including Israel’s only Islamist party, that ended Netanyahu’s previous term in June 2021. Experts Tal Shalev and Michael Koplow analyzed the campaigns, the results and their implications for Israel, the Palestinians, and U.S. policy in the region.
