Morganite is just one variety of a mineral called beryl. You may not have heard of beryl, which is naturally colorless, but you've definitely heard of its cousins. Blue beryl is caused by the presence of iron ions. We call it aquamarine. Green beryl is created by chromium. You might know it as emerald.
Pink beryl, which is colored by the element manganese, is called morganite. Morganite is the second rarest form of beryl, surpassed only by the deep red Bixbite.
