From The Joffrey Ballet, a clip about the Milicent Hodson and Ken Archer's reconstruction of Vaslav Nijinsky's lost choreographic masterpiece to Stravinsky's "Le Sacre du Printemps". The ballet was performed only 7 times in 1913 and, because it was far too advanced for its time (among some other sordid and atrocious reasons) never performed again. Hodson and Archer began the long process of piecing it together, backed by Robert Joffrey beginning in, I think, 1979 and staged the first performance in 1987. The choreography was never fully written down so sketches, scraps of paper from the dancers, notes from Stravinsky's score, the memories of Nijinsky's assistant Marie Rambert, who performed on opening night, interviews with a musician or two, etc, would all play a role in the reconstruction. Were it not for the years of hard work on the parts of Joffrey, Hodson and Archer, we would never know the genius of Nijinsky the choreographer. Fatova Mingus.
