zenaida yanowsky in le sacre du printemps
From the BBC movie "Riot at the Rite", this is Royal Ballet prima ballerina Zenaida Yanowsky performing the Danse Sacrale from Vaslav Nijinsky's "Le Sacre du Printemps"...also known as The Rite of Spring. I clipped this from the film so there are a few scenes depicting the antics of Parisian high society in the low gear of the historical riot that Nijinsky and Igor Stravinsky caused when they presented this collaboration of genius to a world not yet ready for anything beyong "one-two-three" and a tutu. Yanowsky is very good. I believe she is the tallest dancer to be named prima but watch the extension in her performance. She uses her height beautifully. I do not own any rights to this clip but have shared it so that Yanowsky's incredible performance can be seen. There are no available videos of her performance in this role.
