Deadheading Garden Phlox for 🌸 BLOOMS all season long! 🌸 Home gardening quick tips 💚
Deadheading garden phlox after they finish blooming can encourage continuous blooms for the whole growing season. Work along with me to learn some key tips when cleaning up your garden phlox, and make sure they give loads of blooms all season long!
Deadheading phlox is such an easy task that only takes a few seconds here and there throughout the season. All you need is a pair of clean clippers or secateurs and your bare hands! You could choose to wear gardening gloves if you want, and use scissors instead clippers, but I just use my bare naked hands and be sure to clean up before and afterwards! Leave the last set of blooms on the plant at the end of the season to allow the plant to go to seed to feed the birds over the winter, encourage seed propagation, and have some winter interest when the snow comes.
Deadheading tips:
-Follow the flower stalk down to where new side shoots are starting to grow.
-Clip just above the side shoots (be careful not to cut off the new growth!).
-Toss the spent flower heads down into the garden to decompose naturally and add healthy nutrients back to the mulch and soil.
-That's it!
