Want to get started with native plant gardening? This video will share how planting with native plants can be eye-opening and can entirely change your gardening perspective, even by starting with only one native plant.

I share an overview of my native plant gardens, a bit of a history of how I got started, and some tips and resources that you might find useful in your native plant gardening journey as well!

All videos and pictures featured are from my gardens in Southwestern Ontario, Canada, hardiness zone 5b. I planted my first native plant, obedient plant, only 5 years ago, and now I have over 70 different species of native plants in my small, suburban gardens, and this collection is growing by the season.

Growing native plants helps to build back biodiversity and helps to support pollinators in our gardens, which are in decline and are very much in need of our help. Please consider growing native plants in your gardens. There are many to choose from, and many will suit your garden style and conditions perfectly!

I would highly recommend the Pollinator Stewardship Certification from Pollinator Partnership Canada. I learned so much in this program about supporting pollinators in my garden. For a brief summary of my learnings, see my video here on attracting pollinators to your gardens with native plants:    • SAVE THE POLLINATORS: 5 EASY Steps to Attr...   There is also a program for our friends in the US as well. Check out ‪@PollinatorOrg‬ for details!

I share what I am learning by documenting my native plant gardens monthly and share these tours on YouTube ‪@TheSuburbanGardenista‬, to help people see how these plants develop over time, to show how this can be done in a suburban garden context, and to help people plan their garden design knowing how these plants look throughout the seasons.

So start small - even with just one native plant - and you will see impacts almost immediately!
