The Bennies - Let's Have A Party!
This banger is pretty much entirely the brain child of Ollie’s. Really early on from him taking on lead guitar he busted into the studio with this number ready to smash out. Obviously we all added our own bits of flavour and worked collectively… but Ollie just knew what this song was meant to be and brought a more finished song to the table than how we normally write.
Given that this was one of the first songs we wrote with our current lineup we were playing it heaps and heaps during the first few writing sessions. It was a good song for new members and everyone to find their individual sound within the context of an already established Bennies’ sound. So we were rehearsing and writing at this place in the mountains…. We were partying a lot while doing this and it was just a magical time… however waking up hungover everyday and using this song as the first one to kinda get the mojo happening kinda felt like torture. Singing the chorus over and over again at 10am while super super hungover is kinda the furthest thing from a party. I have some demos on my phone of us playing this just after we woke up that are almost soul destroying… hearing people yell “let’s have a party” when their heart isn’t into it…. Is just some sort of hilarious hypocrisy or lie or something. This song always makes me think about those mornings and it makes me smile from ear to ear! You gotta work for the party, nothing comes easy… especially the good times!
