The Bennies - Cocaine
We were doing some cocaine one night and realised we didn’t have a song about cocaine. It’s like every sick band ever has a song about cocaine, so we needed to fix that. We had this chat about what it should be and stuff… the kinda obvious thing is like to make the song fast and stressful and super up beat and party. We were laughing heaps about the idea of kinda going down the other path of the cocaine fuelled times. Like in a weird way, slow reggae and some confusing metal is kinda more cocaine than an actual party song about cocaine. I love that this song doesn’t have a chorus, I love that there are three very different voices telling very different perspectives on the realities of nose beers. I absolutely loved watching dougy lay down the trombone on this tune. We reference a song called cocaine by an artist called dilinger in this song - kinda serendipitous, but when the band started in like 2009 we would try and cover it… but it was too hard, so we gave up. I’m glad it’s shown its mug again.
