Writers at Work: Olivia Lanchester, Australian Society of Authors
Olivia Lanchester, CEO of the Australian Society of Authors, discussed the business side of being an author. We talked about publishing, including submitting work, the role of agents, understanding copyright, negotiating agreements and the important advocacy work of the ASA.
Olivia Lanchester is the CEO of the Australian Society of Authors (ASA). Previously, Olivia has worked as an intellectual property lawyer in private practice and as a freelance editor. Olivia advises authors and illustrators on all aspects of the publishing process, advocates for the protection of authors’ interests and liaises with industry organisations for better industry protocols. She leads the ASA's advocacy to government, including on copyright reform and the Australian Lending Rights schemes, and advocates for the recognition of authors as key drivers of the creative economy. Olivia is also a director of the Australian Copyright Council and sits on the board of the International Authors Forum.
