This ad from 1960 promoted the new, transparent high-impact polystyrene Dixie Cup dispenser as a durable time-saver that would suit any home decoration style, be it Early American, traditional, or contemporary (represented by kids in a racoon skin cap, a baseball cap, and a space suit, respectively.) "There's nothing youngsters love more than to help themselves to a Dixie Cup from a Dixie Cup dispenser."
High-impact polystyrene was used mainly in military equipment such as radio transmitters and homing devices in the 1940s, but became a very popular commercial manufacturing material in the 1950s and '60s, and was used to make all sorts of things such as toys, disposable tableware, sunglasses, and home organization containers.
