Ever wonder how lumber is made? In 60-seconds, we'll give you an inside look into how we make lumber using trees and technology!
Technology turns trees into lumber. The whole process begins with our favorite renewable resource - a tree! A wave feeder inspects and debarks the trees. It then gets inspected, scanned, and analyzed by our log analyzing computer to use as much of the log as possible with no waste. The lumber then goes in a kiln to get a spa-like experience where it steams for 30 hours. The wood then gets sent to the planer mill where it gets finished and trimmed to its final size. Last step is to sort it and grade it before it gets labeled, banded and shipped all across the country.
Georgia-Pacific was founded on lumber way back in 1927. But it’s what we offer today that makes our lumber such a trusted choice. We offer a variety of southern and western lumber products for construction and industrial uses. Today, GP Building Products is the largest producer of structural wood panels (plywood and OSB) in North America and is a leading producer of gypsum building products, lumber and composite panels.
