Cast care instructions
Being in a cast is not fun or easy. Having a child in a cast is even worse. It is so hard to keep the cast clean and dry. However, it is very important to take good care of the cast to avoid any skin breakdown or damage. In this video, we discuss tips for cast care.
Here are five tips to help keep your cast clean and avoid skin breakdown:
1. Never get the cast wet
2. Never stick anything down the cast
3. Do not get sand and dirt in the cast
4. Do not pull out the liner between your skin and the cast
5. Inspect the skin around the cast to make sure no hard edges are causing pressure ulcerations on the skin
If at any point the cast gets wet, dirty or something is stuck down the cast, contact your doctor’s office to have the cast evaluated and possibly replaced.
These are the cast care instructions we cover in this video.
