Freedom Planet 2 - Shenlin Park S Rank (Lilac)
Freedom Planet 2 just released and it is a massive improvement over the original in just about every way. Playing with Lilac so far and it's so much fun, she had a lot of upgrades in terms of mobility compared to her Freedom Planet 1 counterpart.
I'd say, this sequel is almost perfect... except when it comes to S ranking... To get an S rank, it isn't enough to beat the par time, but also not take any damage in your run whatsoever. Meaning 1 single hit to your HP bar means the end of your S rank run. I find this a bit excessive when you can see how easy it is to get hit in this game. Now finding routes is less about beating it in the fastest time possible and more about just finding the "safest route", especially routes that have shields. I just think it flies in the face of the games design. Not even Devil May Cry punished you this hard for getting hit at least once and still gives you an S rank if you excel at other categories, mainly time, style points and red orbs... and DMC is built around combat.
By comparison, getting an A rank in Freedom Planet 2 just requires you to finish the level without dying, regardless of time, damage taken or even crystals...
What I'd think would be more fairer is something in the lines of a bit more stricter S rank times combined with how many crystals you collect in level. This way I think it still feels challenging while giving you some leeway to not mess things up and let you experiment.
