'Weekend (Postscript)' from the album Early Winters by Stellar Jays
Proud to share our latest lyric video for the song 'Weekend (Postscript)' from our debut album Early Winters. So this one was a fun lyric video to pull together as it brought me back to when I originally wrote the song back in 2021, sometime in the brief hopeful interlude as we were coming out of the pandemic. The song is essentially a conversation between two old friends, both glad to see one another after a long while, wary of the past and wary of the future, but still cautiously optimistic. You could also listen to it as an ode to America - past/present/future - as that's a theme running through the lyrics and amplified by some amazing combine footage :)
Not that anyone is reading this far, but your bonus trivia on the song has to do with the title 'Weekend (Postscript)' - as fans will know I'm a huge Neil Young fan, and one of my favorite songs of his is 'Out on the Weekend' from the album Harvest. So this is also a postscript to that song; I even borrowed the same first line "Think I'll pack it in" as a connection back. And the letter I reference at the end of verse two is the apology letter I've been meaning to write Neil ever since I wrote him off when I was a teenager after watching him play the 1993 MTV video music awards with Pearl Jam. I was like "who's this dinosaur playing with a legit band that's defining alternative rock?" Little did I know that Neil was the godfather of it all - and funny enough in 1993 he was only a handful of years older than I am now! Joke's on me I guess.
And so this song is now my official apology to you @neilyoungarchives - I can say for sure that Stellar Jays wouldn't exist as a band without you. And thanks for playing one hell of a set at Jazzfest in New Orleans a couple week's back - had a blast seeing you live!
