Blacc: Black Cellar Club is a group wine professional in South Africa. I manage the social media page and created an online study group. The purpose of the group is to keep our minds sharp doing the worldwide Corona "safe at home" period. I invited local professionals such as winemakers and sommeliers to share their knowledge with our group. In this video Alastair Rimmer from Klein Zalze joined us to discuss winemaking in Stellenbosch. One of the key take aways was Alastairs description of the South African movement. It provides insight into the culture and identity of South African wines. Watch the video to find out!
Alastair does a great job of explaining so many great wine concepts :
Storage containers from stainless steel to Terra Cota (clay) and oak
Malolactic Fermentation
Methode Cap Classic Process
Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon
About Alastair Rimmer:
Alastair’s wine journey began in Stellenbosch when he was inspired to change his studies from horticulture to viticulture. He believes his time working in the varied conditions of Spain, New Zealand, the US and South Africa has helped him to focus on the ‘important’ elements, irrespective of the area or style of wines he was making.
Looking ahead, Alastair aims to consolidate on what Kleine Zalze has achieved so far, and to contribute to Kleine Zalze’s identity both locally and internationally.
