The Ultimate Fate of Acoustic Kitty
A short segment from "You Have Used Me As A Fish Long Enough", an episode from Adam Curtis's 1995 BBC series The Living Dead looking at how historical and individual memory shape nationalism and power, and vice versa. This part relates a hilariously gruesome and cruel experiment where the CIA tried to create bionic super-cats to spy on the Russians (or whoever else they wanted to listen in on I suppose). With its balance of twisted ambition, horror and failure, this is a very good example of what Curtis does throughout his films – you can almost hear Curtis's voice (the one that narrates all his films) saying his often repeated catchphrase: "But they were wrong."
