As the first jet aircraft in the world to be used in combat against other machines, the Me 262 was probably the most famous aircraft in the Second World War.
With its revolutionary swept wings, the Me 262 was much faster than any aircraft the Allies had to counter. The Me 262, although not maneuverable like piston–engined aircraft, made up for this disadvantage with superior speed, it could fly through enemy formations faster than any pursuing aircraft. This speed could be maintained for a long time even in tight corners, which the piston–engined aircraft could not.
