Script excerpt (for tags):
They appear in every Half-Life game. What meaning do they bring? What are they hiding? This video will be mostly free of conspiracy theories, just a collection of facts about Vortigaunts from all Half-Life games.
Vortigaunts. A humanoid alien race. Distinguishing features include a third arm and the ability to use magic. Long before the Black Mesa incident, the Vortigaunts' homeworld was captured by the Combine. The survivors fled to Xen. At this time, Black Mesa opened a rift to this world, and the Nihilanth, seeing this as a chance to escape, ordered the Vortigaunts to invade Earth. After the Nihilanth's death, they became allies of humans.
The third arm is also characteristic of other Xen species, such as the Grunt and the Nihilanth. This arm is sometimes used for eating, but in Half-Life Alyx, it was also used to harness their green energy.
The Vortigaunt had many names before the release of the first Half-Life. The website ogr published information from the developers, including about Vortigaunts, stating that their original name was Xenotherium Subservilia, or SubsErvient Alien Beast, meaning submissive alien beast. They were also called Slaves of Xen, and as allies, they were affectionately called Vorth.
Vortigaunts have undergone several redesigns. Before the 2010 update, they looked different in Half-Life 2. In Episode II, their skin became smoother. In Half-Life Alyx, they gained a third finger. It seems Half-Life 3 has been confirmed again. (Laughs with Gabe)
On the sides of the Vortigaunt's head are two tubes, which, judging by the model's part names, are nostrils. Initially, there were two, but in Half-Life Alyx, there are four.
In the first Half-Life, their AI was designed to work in groups. If the enemy's forces outnumbered them, they retreated and regrouped with other Vortigaunts. They also flee from grenades.
Vortigaunts communicate using flux shifting. They claim it cannot be understood by those whose vortal inputs are impaired. However, they learned human language to communicate with humans. While the various language versions of the Vortigaunts speak a specific language, only the original, English, takes into account certain peculiarities: they speak with a strange, African-like accent and a slight speech impediment when using the letters S and R. They also use archaic words, outdated phrases, and even Shakespearean phrases. (Joke?)
The connection to Vort Essence is primarily provided by the brain, as Gary, a Vortigaunt from Half-Life Alyx, is cut off from this connection due to a head injury. This makes it difficult for him to distinguish between the past, present, and future.
Vortigaunts can strengthen their connection to Vort Essence by using antlion larval extract. In this state, they can travel through time and interact with superbeings like G-Man. They also gain the ability to perform powerful healing. Several Vortigaunts were used simultaneously for all actions.
The names of two Vortigaunts from Half-Life Decay are R-4913 and X-8973.
Their goal was to recover the Xen Crystals, which were stolen by Black Mesa scientists. It is later revealed that Jimen did it.
Earlier in Half-Life 2, Vortigaunts used blue energy to charge their suits. After the 2010 update, as in Episode 2, they began using green blobs for this. Blue energy is still used to mount the pulse machine gun on the boat. In Half-Life 2, they charge 30 armor points, while in Episode 2, they charge 15. The damage of the primary attack was also halved, although it still kills most enemies.
In Half-Life Alyx, drawings of the Vortigaunt Gary appear, reflecting the history of the Vortigaunts. I did a full analysis in my video about the Vort, but it's more theories than facts.
There's a Vortigaunt in Nova Prospekt Prison, whose singing is featured in the ambient music of this location. Afterward, the dispatcher says the following: (Phrase). Later, in Block A7, you can see a Vortigaunt prisoner being destroyed by an unknown installation using the camera model (Check Entity). Alyx also mentions the Vortigaunts from Nova Prospekt. (Check the phrase in English). Perhaps Gary's head injury from Half-Life Alyx is related to this mechanism.
