Dolphin is free after being stranded
Dolphin stranded in the Leschenault Inlet!
Today, a team of four volunteers was sent out to investigate a beached dolphin on a sandbank in the top end of the Leschenault Inlet. Within 15 minutes of the report being made by a member of the public to our reception staff at the Centre, we were on scene with a drone and multiple vehicles to find the animal.
It is very common for dolphins to hunt in these shallows and along the mangrove forest in the City of Bunbury . Some dolphins perform outstanding manoeuvres on the hunt in water, barely deep enough to swim, as shown in our video from previous observations. They can get stuck, so we take every report seriously, especially since some of them have got new calves.
Luckily, this time, the dolphin must have found its way back into deeper water by itself as our team couldn't find it after an hour searching. Parks and Wildlife Service, Western Australia, was also informed about the report.
