Have you noticed this in Harry Potter? There's a deleted scene in The Chamber of Secrets where Hagrid is holding a dead rooster and tells Harry that he's found more. Later, we learn that the Basilisk's only weakness is the crowing of a rooster. So, if you think about it, someone was killing the roosters Hagrid found—and that person was Ginny Weasley, under orders from Tom Riddle. It would've been cool if that blood was used for writing these messages on the wall, but in the book it was just red paint.
