In this special live session, a conversation with psychoanalyst Josias Fontoura discusses some of Jacques Lacan's most thought-provoking formulations, with a focus on the Borromean Knot — a structure that articulates the registers of the Real, Symbolic, and Imaginary.

Josias explains how the unconscious is structured like a language and how we are traversed by a symbolic code that precedes us — the one in which each subject inscribes themselves upon arriving in the world.

The conversation also addresses what escapes language: the Real, that which is not fully symbolized and remains as a remainder, accompanying the subject in life and in the clinic.

During the meeting, Josias also discusses the difference between Freud and Lacan in the way they transmit psychoanalysis:

while Freud writes for a wider audience, Lacan calls analysts to work, proposing a rigorous elaboration — sometimes of a mathematical order — that demands study, continuity, and invention.

This live event celebrates the launch of the book "The Invention of Lacan and the Borromean Knot in Psychoanalytic Practice," and invites the audience to consider how these formulations impact clinical practice and the construction of the subject.
