Science and alchemy (Ch.8-1)
"As I said, this place is full of precise science machines. You should not touch them at will."
"Sorry, but can I ask you a question?"
"Go on."
Xavier wandered around the laboratory while Naya/Naru inspected some of the futuristic metal coatings.
Dalvis was the one asking the question, as he felt uncomfortable staying here for some reason.
"First, what is she doing there? And second, what is this 'science' you mentioned?"
"...Are you being serious?"
"Oh, so is she doing something meaningful? Sorry I did not know.../
"Yes, she is preparing the cloak for you to get out. But that is not what I meant. Did you not know about science?"
The air remained silent.
"No...? Is that a kind of magic or something?"
"Completely in reverse. Science is about the interactions of matters, yet magic is purely about energies."
"Uhh...like alchemy?"
"Alchemy was a misunderstanding for many people like you. It was only a term to explain things magic can't do."
"Which is?"
"The interactions of matters, yes."
It was a bit too complicated for Dalvis to understand, but he showed that he could be all ears.
Raxical noticed his situation and decided to do an illustration to explain. He asked everyone except Novia to come near him.
Two circles were drawn on a digital screen with intersections between the two. Besides those, Raxical also drew a little circle outside the circles.
"The two major realms of the natural world are the two circles here."
He continues.
"As you can see, science and magic, one is about matters, another is about energies. Science is a general term for many subjects, including physics, chemistry, biology, and math."
"Is the intersection between them mean there is a way to conclude them two?"
"Yes, but before that, can you please let me finish my speech?"
Raxical seemed annoyed that someone interrupted his lecture.
"Magic is also a general term, including manaology, rune cryptology, adaptation analysis, and most important subject of all - the attributes. Together the two make the world run, and thus a person can survive."
Naya raised his hand, and Raxical permitted him to talk.
"What about the little circle down here?"
"Very well asked question, and this is the correct way to ask a question when you are at class."
"It is a realm that even the grand scientist himself did not figure out. The Animas. It's about how concepts and expanders work."
"So we don't know much about it yet?"
"Yes, and please, raise your hand before you speak."
