It's Halloween time and we are talking about the SNACK GENE! Everybody is different and will respond differently to various aspects of health and wellness. For example, people's hunger levels are often a result of their genetics! The FTO gene (aka the "snack gene") is responsible for the hunger hormone ghrelin.
In the spirit of Halloween, we decided to hit the streets and ask people about their hunger levels and snacking habits! FitnessGenes video producer Sky Cowans asks folks about their hunger levels and whether they can go all day without eating, or if they get hungry all the time. Sky brings awareness to this new science and offers DNA tests for people to understand how they may respond to the hunger hormone ghrelin!
Ghrelin controls how hungry we are and many people don't realize that's actually a result of our DNA! For those who have a certain variation of the FTO gene, their ghrelin levels will rise very quickly after eating, making them hungrier than other people who do not have this particular gene variation and can go all day without eating.
