Jeerakarista
Jeerakarista is an ayurvedic preparation which is effective in postnatal care. It is one of medicine that is often included as part of a diet after delivery.
The main ingredient for jeerakarista is cumin seeds. Cumin seeds are well known for detoxification and improving the digestion process. As it gives benefits for postnatal care, it provides strength to the mother post delivery.
It is well known to enhance lactation, normal involution of the uterus and as an immune booster. It is also good for enhancing digestive fire, treating diarrhea and indigestion.
The detail ingredients of jeerakarishtam are jeeraka, jaggery, dhataki, shunti, jatiphala, musta, tvak, green cardamom, tejapatra, nagakesara, ajwain, kankola, lavanga and the last is water for decoction.
In general the preparation of jeerakarista is not difficult. The ingredients are classified as kvatha dravya, sandhana dravya and praksepaka dravya. Jeera or cumin is considered as kvatha dravya, jaggery is considered as sandhana dravya and the remaining is considered as praksepaka dravya.
During the preparation, the kvatha dravya is soaked overnight in specified water quantity then boiled in the next day until the water quantity reduces into quarters of its actual amounts then filtered with cotton cloth to get decoction.
Then the jaggery dissolved into the decoction and filtered again.
The filtered decoction then transferred into a clean jar, here we use a clean glass jar. The praksepaka dravya was added into the decoction and mixed to form a homogenous mixture. In the last, the dhataki pushpa was added on the top then the jar sealed.
Here after sealing the jar, we placed the jar inside the carton box containing rice husk to support fermentation.Then we kept the fermentation for 1 month.
