could a black hole destroy earth one day? By combining information about stars, black holes, and stellar and cosmic evolution all together, astronomers have the first robust estimate for black holes in the Universe: 40 quintillion. It's more than almost anyone expected. So, could earth orbit the sun and a black hole? Black Holes's gravity is so strong that nothing, not even light, can escape their pull. They are born from the remnants of massive stars that collapse in on themselves, creating a gravitational field so intense that it warps the fabric of space and time.imagine our planet Earth, a tiny speck in the grand scheme of things, coming face-to-face with this cosmic beast. What would be the fate of our beloved blue planet?

The scenario would unfold something like this: as Earth nears the black hole, the difference in gravity between the side of Earth closest to the black hole and the side farther away would become significant - a phenomenon known as tidal forces. These forces would stretch Earth into what's known as a 'spaghettification' process. Our planet, once a sphere, would be stretched into a long, thin, spaghetti-like shape, and eventually ripped apart atom by atom. As Earth starts to stretch and tear, massive earthquakes and tsunamis would occur, making the planet uninhabitable long before it reaches the black hole. And even if, by some miracle, you survive these catastrophes, you would also be stretched into a thin strand of atoms during the spaghettification process. Now, you might be wondering: would we see any of this coming? The answer is, unfortunately, no. Black holes are invisible to the naked eye, and by the time we noticed any changes in our environment, it would already be too late. So, The Earth would stand no chance if it encountered a rogue black hole; the cosmic black hole's tidal forces would easily rip the planet apart. Lost in space: Matter piles up in a superheated, rapidly spinning disc before plunging through the horizon of a black hole, never to reappear again
