The Andromeda Galaxy is a barred spiral galaxy and is the nearest major galaxy to the Milky Way Galaxy. But, In the grand theater of the universe, galaxies are not static. They move, they interact, and yes, they collide. Our galaxy, the Milky Way, and the Andromeda galaxy are on a collision course. The Andromeda Galaxy contains 1 trillion stars and is moving toward our galaxy at a speed of 110 kilometers per secondBut before you start panicking, let's reassure you, This event is not due to happen for another four billion years. So there's plenty of time to grab a front-row seat to this cosmic spectacle. So, what happens when these two galaxies collide? The answer lies in the intricate dance of gravity and the vast distances between stars. When galaxies collide, it's not like a car crash in the usual sense. It is also not like two planets colliding in a distant star system. Stars within the galaxies are so far apart and separated by light years of empty space that they will simply pass by each other.

The true interaction happens due to gravity. The gravitational forces between the two galaxies will cause them to distort, creating tidal tails of stars and gas that stretch out into space. As the galaxies continue to interact over billions of years, they will eventually merge, forming a new, larger galaxy. This process is known as a galactic merger. The result? A likely elliptical galaxy, quite different from the spiral shape of the Milky Way and Andromeda we know today. But what about our Sun and the Solar System? The Sun, along with our solar system, is located about two-thirds out from the center of the Milky Way.As the galaxies collide, the Sun and its planets will be flung into a new orbit within the merged galaxy. But, as far as current theories suggest, the chances of the Solar System actually being destroyed are quite slim. Now, let's talk about the supermassive black holes. Both the Milky Way and Andromeda have supermassive black holes at their centers.
