A team of undergraduate students, Yu Ching Yi Amber (余澂宜), Chan Wing Huen Victor (陳穎烜), Lau Telly (劉嘉潼), Li Tsz Ching Sharon (李芷呈) and Ng Wing Fai Sofie (吳詠煇) from the Department of Biomedical Engineering has awarded “Potential Development Design Award (Teritary Education Group) 具開發潛力設計獎 (大專組)” in The 2nd Biomedical Engineering Innovation Competition http://ymhk.org.hk/eventDetail.php?id=11. This competition aims to nurture the younger generation to develop innovative technologies and solutions to meet the emerging needs of the society due to the aging population in Hong Kong. In this competition, students are required to design a product for elderlies to encourage them to do exercise at home during the pandemic COVID-19.

The team has designed a piece of music stretching mat for elderlies to play around (Product Name: 啪踏樂). They uphold the spirit of interdisciplinary learning through STEM when designing this product, such as using Arduino for the coding, using circuits and resistors for the building elements of the product. The product allows elders to stretch their hands and legs at home, and it can train the response of users to prevent them from cognitive diseases.
