How To Make Compost At Home - A Homemade Organic Fertilizer For Your Garden Soil
This is my second successful attempt to make compost at home. Homemade compost is the best organic fertilizer you can add to your garden soil. And if rain pours down on your compost, you can use the access water as a compost tea for your vegetables.
Making compost at home is easy even if you are in an urban environment. Just find an old pot/container or a wheelbarrow that you are not using and start filling it up with your kitchen and vegetable waste.
I started with some organic potting mix as a base, then added some brown paper, kitchen waste, coffee grounds, ground up eggshells, banana and avocado peels, leaves from my grapefruit tree (both brown and green). Make sure to keep your compost moist to keep the decomposing process going.
If you are a beginner, don't be afraid to try. I wish I would have started composting at home way back instead of trowing so much kitchen waste in the trash.
From those of you who are from the Phoenix, AZ area, I started the compost in December and it was done by mid April.
