Broken SX RK3 Internals
A Big shout out to Mike of Performance Bicycles because as of this posting he had text me and also email say there was a REPLACEMENT HUB on the way to me ( UNDER WARRANTY ) Thank You
Only Issue I will have is to respoke my wheel because I am not going to trust the hub that this DEFECTIVE AXEL came out of . It might be damaged internally.
But if that is all I have to do this is good.
This video is for anyone that has one of these SX-RK3 hubs and you need to take it apart for what every reason Lubing it or just curious about its design .
But in my case first gear stopped working and this is the second time taking it apart to find out why it did this a second time and what I found out was NOT good at all It appears to be a DEFECT in one of the Paws that engage the 1st gear had BROKEN into 2 pieces and a part of the paw had gotten into the internal planetary gears and Just DESTROYED the housing and at least 1 of the gears because the chunks I found inside the hub was from 1 of the Paws and the 1 gear teeth so its pretty much DESTROYED.
These PAWS are HARDENED STEEL and shouldn't break even under the heaviest loads. I have 2 other of these hubs on my other 2 fatbikes and they have been on those for over 5 years or more and have had NO ISSUES at all with them so WHY did this one decide to SELF DISTRUCT .
The only conclusion I could come up with is that the PAW was DEFECTIVE in the first place.
