Help Kharma Eat Without Pain
Kharma's Story - This is Kharma "Fluffy Tail" Spiegel. He is a 12-year old Pomeranian rescued from an Animal Center in San Diego County in October 2007, when brush fires broke out throughout County. Kharma was at an animal center located in the center of the fire zone. He and 350 other
dogs, cats and horses needed to be evacuated. While the outcome of the Center was still being determined, I fostered Kharma until I knew if the Animal Center was still standing.
After 3 long days, the Center re-opened and the animals were returned. Except one little dog. Kharma! He stole my heart - I adopted him and gave him his new and "forever home". I didn't know how old Kharma was back then, but was told he was about 2 years old. That was almost 10 years ago.
At his first Vet Examination, he was diagnosed with a heart murmur. He has been a happy and healthy dog the whole time we have been with me. Ten years later, as a "senior" dog (or human) medical challenges start coming along.
In April, at his annual Vet visit, Kharma was diagnosed with Periodontal Disease with at least 2-3 abscessed teeth, needing to be removed, maybe up to 10 or more. Beyond a normal teeth cleaning, the Dr. Juli Vasilas at Fire Mountain Veterinary Hospital in Oceanside, CA http://firemtvet.com/ said that until the procedure starts, she could not know for sure how many teeth are affected and diseased. Anyone who has had a cavity or has had a tooth removed knows how painful it can be.
Between this and his heart condition, it is even more critical that Kharma has this necessity procedure done. To undergo this dental procedure, it will cost close to $3,500 dollar if he needs 10 or more teeth removed.
Animals don't show pain. So, when I see that Kharma is having problems eating, shaking his head a lot and rubbing his teeth, it saddened my heart so much. The preparation of his meals were changed, including softening his kibble and adding a little more of his wet food. Anything to ease his pain.
Like many pet-parents out there who adopt their dogs from a shelter or a rescue group, we don’t have $3,500 lying under a mattress or lucky enough to win the lottery. I do have a couple of bucks and I'm betting and hoping that you do too.
Kharma needs your help. He needs to be able to eat comfortably and live without daily pain. We need to make sure his heart stays strong. He has a healthy appetite and I want to make it stays that way. I don't want the pain to become so bad that he stops eating all together. Whether you're a dog owner or not, I'm betting you don't want that either. His procedure is not an elective. It is vital for him, especially with his heart condition.
I know money is tight, and everyone has their own financial challenges.
