The Daoine sith or people of the mound, are powerful regal beings from the other world, the appear to us in a wide spectrum of shapes and attitudes, from the malevolent water kelpies to the powerful elven masters of nature. They can bring power and knowledge, but also terror and spite. These sith were feared in Scotland almost as much as they were respected, our old gods cannot be bound to simple trats or qualities, each spiritual being had it own complex personality and place in the hierarchy of the faerie court. It has long been said that the way to this court, a place known as elfhame lay under the great burial mounds that blanket the ground in Scotland. At one time in this country, there was an incredible strong belief that the mounds not only link the sith to our world, but our dead to theirs, they are sacred grounds, paths on which our ancestors may travel and ultimately find peace. To disrupt the mound was not only to attack the vengeful sith, but also dishonour and desecrate the path of those who came before. The fairies of merlin’s craig
