Many of us know what branding means when it comes to company or business branding. But what about personal branding?
“What’s that?” you might ask. You might also say, “personal branding is for the ‘big-wigs’ of business – people like Bill Gates, Oprah, Jamie Oliver”. Or you might think that personal branding is for celebrities and sports stars.
You’d be right in thinking all that, but in business and entrepreneurship, as scary or as challenging as it might seem, we must embrace the idea of being a personal brand ourselves.
Positioning is one of the 7 +1 Ps of Personal Branding. We cannot be everything to everyone. We must niche. What’s yours?
Market Niche:
Very specifically, what market niche do you want to serve? Be as detailed – as specific – as you can. Create your perfect customer as an ‘avatar’ – that’s another name for a customer profile. Give them a name, and describe them in minute detail. This will help you focus your messaging on them.
Unique Value:
What’s unique about what you do and how you do it? Think about this very carefully.
Customer Promise:
What’s your promise to your customer? What will you deliver to them at all times?
Online Keywords:
Being ‘seen’ these days also includes being ‘found’ via Google and the other search engines. What keywords do you ideally want to capture and be found under as part of your marketing/positioning strategy?
