My concern in art making is how to be able to create an abstract/non-representational painting with the use of art elements like color, shape, line, value, form, space and texture. One among many purposes of art making is to express oneself.
Art making also creates something in me. I create art and at the same time I myself am being cultivated. Art also teaches me to become a better person. Virtues like patience, discipline, perseverance and hard work and how I reflect on simple things that I apply on canvas like colors, shapes, textures and other elements teaches me and helps me understand some aspects of my life. With painting I am able to connect emotionally and spiritually with a thought that has been with me throughout these years, and that is my own existence. The act of painting itself gives me a better sense of awareness about myself.
I have very little knowledge about the natural environment, yet somehow I try to understand, absorb and express something out of nature. I imagine my canvas is like the earth, a seedling bed. The Earth produces many wonderful things that support my existence and why do I take it for granted. I have been reading articles about our natural environment and it looks like it needs more caring.
From where I stand to the water I drink and the air I breathe is all nature and every second is an experience. It may sound ridiculous or far-fetched on how my paintings are related to nature but that is how I see it. I am a humble being made out of nature and that I humbly create. Without nature there can also be no me that creates, and I try to express myself through these paintings. Everytime I paint and contemplate along the way about my existence, it is like planting some kind of consciousness. It comforts me to know that I am provided for, I am nourished and I am supported to exist. I hope that I may be able to appreciate and give more value to this life giving Earth.
