Spotlight On - Geraldine Javier, Five Gardens Part 2
In recent years the garden and our relationship to nature had been the abiding concern of Geraldine Javier. In this exhibition she responds to four artists who were also passionate gardeners - Claude Monet, Gertrude Jekyll, Frida Kahlo and Derek Jarman. Why, she asks, was a garden so important to them, and herself? In both the installations and the paintings, we also see an experimental, but increasingly refined and luscious, use of colour and materials. In a time of climate crisis this is an exhibition that not only offers subtle aesthetic pleasures but that also suggests how we can renew and deepen our relationship with the world of plants.
