Hello everyone and welcome to a new episode of Cinema Basics, where I give context and a brief demonstration of classic cinema techniques which might actually help you spice up your own work. Today’s episode is about The Long Take.

A *long take* (also called *continuous take* or **continuous shot**) is a shot with a duration much longer than the conventional editing pace either of the film itself or of films in general.

Significant camera movement and elaborate blocking are often elements in long takes, but not necessarily so.

Long takes usually stand out from the rest of the film, from establishing shots to an action sequence, a single scene unfolding in real time can have powerful narrative impact, however it can be quite complex and use up lots of resources as well.
