We're looking for Jessica Radcliffe! 🔍 🐳 There are currently a ton of videos on TikTok showing Jessica Radcliffe – alleged animal trainer at the world's largest aquarium, SeaWorld in the USA – being attacked by an orca during a show. One moment she sits seemingly serenely in the animal's mouth, the next moment she is pulled into the depths. On SeaWorld's official website, we can find neither a statement about the incident nor any indication that Jessica Radcliffe ever worked there. 🤨
Similar, confirmed incidents have indeed occurred. In 2010, experienced trainer Dawn Brancheau was repeatedly submerged by the orca Tilikum until she died. A man who gained unauthorized access to the park at night and jumped into the orca pool also died. Animal rights activist Mona Schweizer from Pro Wildlife explains why orcas can be dangerous in captivity: In facilities like SeaWorld, orcas are often separated from their families, forced to live in close quarters with other orcas, and forced to perform tricks. This leads to social stress and high levels of suffering – factors that can encourage aggressive behavior toward humans, even though orcas are considered completely harmless to humans in the wild. 🐬
