Hang gliding in the beautiful Blue Mountains, NSW, Australia on a sunny spring day with a couple of mates. The view was fantastic!
This site is great in summer with many flights over 100kms, but very variable in its prediction. Bill, Hoss and myself turned up to fly based on the prediction but was much stronger than was forecast. Bill and Hoss needed to hold my wing down to prevent me going turtle and being flipped over.
On this particular day the winds were very strong and gusty, mixed with massive thermals and spent the whole flight with the bar in to make sure I wasn't swept back behind the hill into the rotor of the mountain and not have the bar ripped out of my hands. The lift and sink was pretty extreme.
Instead, after 30mins of being trashed around and trying to stay out in front of the roto I went down to the rotor of the landing zone (LZ) and hit the worst turbulence I've ever experienced. Well, I'm here to upload this video, so I must have made it. It was an experience!!
