In Secret Wars (1984) – Chapter 9, the ultimate threat begins to take shape as Galactus initiates the destruction of the planet, determined to satiate his hunger regardless of the consequences. The first to confront him are the X-Men, led by Professor X, who attempt to hold him off while awaiting the arrival of the other heroes, but they are quickly overwhelmed by the power of the devourer of worlds.
Meanwhile, the heroes travel in a ship toward the final confrontation. During the journey, Ben Grimm transforms once again into the Thing, while Spider-Man begins to demonstrate the new abilities of his black suit. At the same time, the identity beneath the Iron Man armor is revealed: James Rhodes.
Before the final clash, Reed Richards reflects on Galactus's true role in this conflict, arriving at a disturbing conclusion: perhaps the only way to save the universe is to allow Galactus to devour the planet, either so that the Beyonder satisfies his hunger or so that he destroys it in the attempt.
At that moment, Reed is transported to Galactus's ship, where the two have a crucial conversation that could determine the fate of everything. Meanwhile, Doctor Doom regains his senses after his injuries and begins to devise a much more ambitious and dangerous plan: to absorb Galactus's power and confront the Beyonder directly.
