Walking in a Poor Area of Helsinki, Koivukylä | Immigrants, Drunks, Cheap Housing
Hello! Today we will go for a walk around the Koivukylä district in the city of Vantaa (Helsinki region). Vantaa is a city in Finland. It is located to the north of the capital, Helsinki, in southern Uusimaa. The population of Vantaa is approximately 247,000. It is the 4th most populous municipality in Finland. Vantaa is part of the Helsinki Metropolitan Area, which has approximately 1.58 million inhabitants.
Koivukylä is a district in the eastern part of Vantaa, along the main road about four kilometers north of Tikkurila and five kilometers south of Korso. Koivukylä forms the center of the larger area of Koivukylä. The population of Koivukylä in 2019 was 4,836 and the entire larger area more than 30,000.
Now in this area is mainly inhabited by immigrants from different countries, because housing is very cheap here and there are a lot of old houses. For example, a two-room apartment can be bought for only 60,000 euros. This is a very small price compared to Helsinki. In Helsinki, a similar apartment will cost 180,000 euros. And the center of Helsinki is only 25 minutes from Koivukylä by train. Therefore, the area is popular with immigrants.
