It is a tragic story, retold many times by the Bulgarian people. She was Lora Karavelova — one of the most charismatic women of her time. He was Peyo Yavorov — a celebrated Bulgarian poet. Their love was passionate but forbidden, yet they married in 1912, defying the disapproval around them.
But on the fateful night of November 30th, 1913, after a tense evening at Dr. Tihov’s home, everything fell apart. A bitter argument erupted between Lora and Yavorov — she accused him of being obsessed with Dora Kremen, the wife of Dr. Tihov. Exhausted by the fight, Yavorov replied, “Fine. If you’re going to speak to me like this, I’m going to bed.” He undressed, ready to end the quarrel. But in that moment, Lora entered the room holding a revolver. She looked at him one last time — and then pressed the gun to her chest and pulled the trigger.
Yavorov desperately called for help, but it was too late. Lora was dying. When asked the haunting question, “Why?”, she used her final breath to whisper:
“Because I love you.”
Lora was a woman marked by tragedy. Her first marriage had been arranged by her powerful mother, Ekaterina Karavelova. When she met Yavorov, she believed she had finally found true love — only to realize that his heart remained forever tied to his first love, Mina Todorova, a 16-year-old girl who had died of tuberculosis not long after they met.

I dont know where Im at
Im standing at the back
And Im tired of waiting
Waiting here in line, hoping that Ill find what Ive been chasing
I shot for the sky
Im stuck on the ground
So why do I try, I know Im gonna to fall down
I thought I could fly, so why did I drown?
I never know why its coming down, down, down.
I shot for the sky
Im stuck on the ground
So why do I try, I know Im gonna to fall down
I thought I could fly, so why did I drown?
Oh its coming down, down, down
