Amy Appelt - Powell Lacrosse Legends
Amy Appelt is one of the most dominant goal scorers in college lacrosse history. Our next Powell Lacrosse Legend put on a show in Charlottesville with flair and a get out of my way attitude that allowed her to fill the back of the net.
Coming out of Garden City on Long Island, Amy proved herself immediately as she earned 2002 ACC Rookie of the Year honors as well as being named a Third Team All-American. She had every move and shot in the book as she led the charge for the Cavaliers during her college career. After losing in the 2003 Title game to Princeton, Amy and the Cavs would get their revenge and beat Princeton in the 2004 National Championship.
Amy is a 4x All-American, 2004 Tewaaraton Trophy Winner, NCAA Champion, a member of the NCAA's 25th Anniversary team in 2006, and finished her career with 373 points and a school record 258 goals.
Watching her highlights you can see #19's great change of direction, field sense, and creativity as she could make magic happen from anywhere on the field. A heart and soul type of player, Amy played the game with an edge and that gave her the advantage when she charged toward the net. Even with the spotlight on her she was always team first and found ways to set up her teammates. Her 90 goals during the 2004 season are a reflection of the work she put in to become such a talented goal scorer. She's also had a huge influence on the game as a coach as she has led UMBC for many years and coached in women's pro lacrosse.
Amy was inducted into the Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2021.
